Well, that didn’t take long. It’s day 3 of the NCAA tourney and my bracket is completely busted. I had the Illinois Fighting Illini winning the National Championship and they got upset by Loyola Chicago today in the round of 32. To make matters worse, 6 of my sweet 16 teams are already eliminated and we’re not even halfway through the round of 32, it could get a lot worse by the end of tomorrow.
I don’t know why I even bother partaking in March Madness anymore. The last time I won a bracket challenge was in 2008 when Kansas beat Memphis. Since than I haven’t had much luck at all, I usually lose a Final Four team before the first weekends over and that trend continued this year.
Good news is now I can just sit back, relax and enjoy the tourney without worrying about “my teams” winning. Now I can root for chaos. Now I can root for every underdog to win and for all the “favorites” to choke and lose in heartbreaking fashion.
As good as the tourney can be when your picks are going good, it can be even better when you don’t have to worry about your picks and can just root for exciting basketball and fantastic finishes. So far it’s been a pretty good tournament, we’ve had some good finishes, lots of lower seeded underdogs are pulling off upsets. Let’s hope this continues and we get something like UCLA vs. Syracuse in the National Championship.
